Schumacher College is a unique international educational institution. It provides individuals and groups from across the world with the opportunity to learn on numerous levels about subjects relating to environmental and social sustainability.
Based on the insights of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Thomas Berry, Miriam MacGillis , and Brian Swimme, the Earth Literacy at Home program is a home study and online discussion of our new understandings of our evolutionary past, the dynamics of Earth today, and how we might reinvent ourselves and our culture to facilitate our transition to a mode that enhances the integrity of the human and the florescence of Earth life. Such studies have been offered on-site at Genesis Farm for over a decade.
Fostering Earth Literacy and Transition Culture
Blairstown, New Jersey
At Genesis Farm we raise serious questions about the global crises and evoke the rich spiritual insights that are within the hearts of all people. Focusing on connections between the health of Earth and of human communities within particular bioregions, we address the basic issues of our time in concert with all people of good will, learning together how to become part of creating that health, both inwardly and outwardly.
Our mission is to inspire and renew people to serve a future that sustains us all.
Skyline – An Eco-Contemplative Center
Skyline is our place on the planet. Here we live and work throughout the year. We cut our own firewood. We tend animals and grow gardens. Our creek provides our electricity. We know the source of our spring and the well from which we drink. Our practice is to be present to each abundant moment in which we find ourselves. We invite you into our lives through opportunities for solitude and silence, for participation in workshops, earth celebrations and spiritual dialogue.
Skyline Harvest was founded in 1988 by Teresa and Diane as a response to the needs of incarcerated and chemically-dependent women. Today, as an eco-contemplative center, the original commitment to justice, compassion and healing has grown to include the whole earth community. Their vision for Skyline has been largely informed by two visionary mentors: Raimon Panikkar and Thomas Berry.
We understand that an embodied spirituality, rooted in the Earth, and dedicated to healing the split between body and soul, spirit and matter, human and divine, is integral to the great work being called forth by our time. We want to participate in bringing this emerging spirituality to birth.

We are a new monastery in the Catholic tradition, whose founding mission gathers its inspiration from our mentor and co-founder,
Thomas Berry; monk, scholar, cultural historian and geologian.
Rooted in the long lineage of this tradition we engage with it at this new “Moment of Grace,” as it enters into its cosmological / planetary phase.
We do this by understanding ourselves within the larger context of the Universe Story and by celebrating Earth as a Single Sacred Community.
Here at our monastery we place the ancient monastic values of prayer and silence, simplicity and scholarship, manual labor, organic farming and the cultivation of the arts at the service of the entire Earth community in order to promote a sustainable future.
